From Redundancy to Pharmatimes Finalist in 18 months

When I was made redundant, I was warned by a number of recruitment agents that the biggest impact, in their experience, is on an individual’s self-confidence. I was no exception! Mags has a unique ability to build confidence. Through gentle probing she established very quickly what I had achieved in my role, what I had contributed to the business, where my strengths lay and what motivated me. By discussing the facts objectively she convinced me of what I had to offer, placing before me my own hard evidence which proved to be invaluable in setting me on the road to further employment. I secured a job within 2 months, not just any job but a post that extended my career and I have had the confidence and ability to reach the finals in the Pharmaceutical Industry awards 2006. Mags you are a unique, gifted lady – Many thanks!

M. A. Heath, Clinical Operations Manager

"Mags Bell is a master of her craft, but without attaching any ego to it, so that's it's always about the client. Mags has incredible intuition, knowing when to challenge you, and when to pull back. She helped guide me through a very challenging time in my life when I was at a crossroads. She helped me reassess my values, which was the big eye-opener for me, from which everything else followed. Mags is warm, funny, clever, caring, and always intent on you getting the most out of coaching. I would recommend her to anyone looking for coaching and wanting to get to the heart of the matter then take action!"

Katie Shaw, Director and Coach

I have used Mags Bell as a coach for both personal and business growth and cannot recommend her highly enough. Mags worked with me to eliminate some self limiting beliefs and enable me to move past the things holding me back. Mags’ ability to cut to the chase and not get caught up in the “story” means that you do not waste valuable time looking at the past, but cut through the self talk to be able to move into the future. If you are looking for a fluffy coach who will sympathise endlessly with the hows and whys, then Mags Bell is not for you.

Straight talking, direct and asking the questions that some are afraid to ask, Mags is able to quickly and effectively get you pointing in the right direction. She is quick witted, intuitive and has a great sense of humour – a great combination for someone you will trust with your innermost hopes and dreams.

Hi Mags,

I’ve had a reflective day…………….this is how I feel:-

Mags asked me what I wanted. I said I wanted to be ‘happy in my job’.

It actually went deeper than that. I wanted to be ‘happy’. Without positive self belief there is no inner peace just turmoil and thus it affects everything we do. Relationships are negative and work performance poor. Life becomes robotic and an act. At the age of 42 that’s where I was.

Mags tirelessly worked with me. I learned that fear and trust cannot co exist. I feared what I didn’t trust and the reason I didn’t trust it was because I didn’t understand it. Communication is the key to understanding and understanding yourself is the key to all of that. I learned that mistakes are not failings they are developmental and are to be forgiven and progressed from.

Dr David Schreiber, author of ‘Healing without Freud or Prozac’ said as a boy he could paddle and fish in the River Sien but as he got older the river became polluted by substances and was unsafe. As he stood on its bank many years later holding the hand of his own little boy he saw that it had purified, the fish had come back and it was once again safe to paddle in. He related that to life. If The River Sien could purify itself then so can we as humans.

That’s what Mags has helped me to do and it’s difficult to find the words that capture the experience. It’s been an exciting and exhilarating journey. It has completely turned my whole life around.

Last Xmas as I placed the star on top of my Xmas tree I named it Mags Bell, this year at the age of 44 the most appropriate honour I can bestow upon Mags is to call it Brenda.

Thank you Mags for without your coaching, patience and time I may never have shone."

"The greatest help I feel, is the opportunity to talk through situations which appear very black and white when you are involved but with a more objective view are really all shades of grey. This helps me to be more objective in dealing with every individual and I have learnt that there is always another side to look at things from I just need to ask the right question to uncover what is really going on. I can always rely on an objective review and appraisal of issues that we discuss. This helps to take the emotion out of any situation and see where the real issues lie, therefore allowing me to formulate a plan to deal with each situation with contingencies as most of the time this is dealing with people. I find that very often Mags’ coaching highlights some information that I have not asked or explored to get the more complete picture."

Kathleen Grieve, Regional Business Manager

"I have been received coaching and mentoring from Mags for just over 12 months now. I was a new Regional Business Manager coming into the Pharmaceutical Industry and really needed a lot of help and support. I can honestly say Mags was one of the first people to make me realise I already had all the ability to become the successful RBM I want to be, I just need a little guidance along the way. Mags is always there with help and advice for me when ever I need it.

One of the best things I find, is she never gives me the answer, she guides and talks me through problems or issues I may be having but lets me find the route to take on my own. I have found this works really well being coached through a scenario by Mags and then deciding on a direction to take, it gives me real confidence to have almost rehearsed the situation. It’s been a real pleasure to work with her and I wish her every success in the future and hope to continue to draw on her skills for my career moving forward.

Paul Mason, Project Manager

"I suppose the most important thing about the coaching style of Mags Bell is her ability to make you think for yourself, analysing your weaknesses and strengths, and in turn allowing the individual to develop themselves through her key questioning on your behaviours. Through doing this I have found that I learn more about myself and for me going forward I benefit from everything I do, both personally and professionally.

Mags Bell never criticises, she sees opportunity in everything she does and everything the team does, collectively and individually. It is this ability that has given me the best foundation for personal growth as I understand her clearly and this makes adapting my style a natural, not forced process."

"'Mags' has a natural ability and passion for Coaching, backed by formal skills and qualifications. I have seen her coach a broad range of people and groups from Junior Sales People to Senior Management; all with equal success. Any individual who exudes this amount of passion and belief in Coaching cannot fail to be successful in whatever she sets out to achieve.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Mag's over the past 3 years. Her skills as a Manager and as a Coach as well as her highly refined business skills will be sorely missed. In addition to her obvious skills in Coaching and Developing individuals and teams, Mag's is a highly professional individual with impeccably high standards who always delivers on her commitments. Colin Watson, Programme Director Mags, your coaching provided me with light in a dark tunnel, where I could see which direction I really wanted to go in my career and it helped me to make many important decisions to help me continually progress in life!”

Hi Mags,
I thought I should write to let you know how the CPD course for the East of Scotland Breast Nurses was received by ourselves and the delegates. As you know, our objective was to empower the nurses to feel confident to speak up for the patients at MDT meetings etc. We felt that the starting point should be communication and presentation skills as they are being asked to be involved in meetings more and more. We also explained that we would be willing to run a series of courses if they were found to be useful and relevant. The nurses were very keen to get this value added service which they would not otherwise be offered.

I think the fact that you came along to one of their meetings to explain to them what you would do and what it would mean to them helped to let them see that they could benefit greatly from the courses. It meant that as soon as we sent out the invitations we were fully subscribed. In fact we could have filled the course twice over. On the day in November ‘06, the organisation and professionalism of your company shone through. The pace was just right, you could see people progress as the day went on and as you promised it was lots of fun!!! The nurses who attended have raved about it to the nurses who didn't get a place and they are all clamoring for us to do it again. For the original group we are all agreed that we want to continue the learning with Belief Systems being the next course in April.

From my point of view it is doing exactly what I want it to do for the nurses but is also raising the Roche profile and giving us an advantage over our competitors and although I've done lots of communication & presentation skills courses in my time in the Pharma industry I must say I got lots out of it personally. I'm still using the skills I got on the day which is unusual as you normally forget most of these courses as soon as you go back to you everyday life. I am looking forward to ALL of us getting plenty out of the future courses and I think we are going to have to look at duplicating the courses for those nurses who were missed first time around.

Thanks for your excellent input and I look forward to continuing our success.
